Okay, so its been a while since I posted anything- BUT the holidays were super busy.  But I am back now and ready for action!

Like many of you I have made some resolutions for the year:

1. Lose some weight.  I have never weighed more than I do right now.  My mom had bought some pants that I thought would be way too large, but sadly, when I put them on- they fit!  Pretty well actually!

2. Read more books.  Last year I read at least 1 book per week.  I had planned on reading 150 books in 2008, but that sounds very ambitious!  I’ll be happy to at least double my reading.  So to help get the new year started here are my first 3 books for 2008:

1. The Pig That Wants to Be Eaten, Julian Baggini: This is a pretty quick read if you don’t take the time to think through the 100 philosophical scenarios presented in this book.  It’s a great read that will really get you thinking.  Nothing is off limits in this book, from religion to politics, the Matrix to the London Opera House- this book has it all!

2. Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury: This book has been selected for the Big Read.  Baton Rouge, along with many other cities across the US have been participating in One Book, One Community.  The idea is that the everyone reads the same book and then local libraries and schools host events related to book.  Check out your local library and find it what book they have chosen for the spring of 2008.

3. The Message, Eugene Peterson: This is a paraphrase of the Bible.  I have never read through it before so I just wanted to see how modern the language is.  In describing an argument between Laban and Jacob the text says, “And now it was Jacob turn, so it lit into Laban…” It will be interesting to see how some of the “more interesting” Bible passages get transformed in this text.

If anyone has any book recommendations feel free to pass them along.  I’ll be sharing some thoughts from this books in the coming days.
